Hand rehabilitation training after stroke

Some patients may not be able to open their hands after a stroke. In response to this situation, how should patients be trained?

(1) Reduce hand muscle tension

Give the patient a hand massage with one-finger stretching.

(2) Wrist dorsiflexion training

When the patient's function is slightly poor in the early stage, we can operate with the assistance of family members, and let the palm and arm be at a 90° angle to help the patient perform compressions. According to the actual situation of the patient, the degree of attention can be used to prevent the patient's wrist dislocation. When his hand function is slightly better, he can actively train himself. The patient can sit on the bedside or stand, and put his hands on the bedside and on the table to do all-finger palm pressing.

(3)Finger training

This action is more difficult for most patients with hemiplegia, but we must insist on training. The patient can start the exercise with two fingers first, and the nursing staff can hold the two fingers of the patient with both hands and drive them to do the fingering exercises. Or they could use some rehabilitation equipment, such as hand rehabilitation gloves specially designed for stroke patients.

(4)Finger extension training

This action will be more difficult. Many patients will only grasp the fingers without opening. Most patients will have this situation. The main reason is due to various reasons such as hand muscle tension, muscle strength, nerve control and so on. Therefore, post-nursing staff can massage and stretch the fingers of the patient. This helps the patient to eliminate hand muscle tension, enhance the flexibility of the patient's hand, speed up the hand recovery.
